Welcome!
Hello, my name is Colleen Allen, and I’m delighted to welcome you to my website.
Here, you will find insights into my experience, qualifications, and the professional services I
provide, combining my expertise in access and wellbeing with my passion for TV and film.
Merging Access & Wellbeing, in TV and Film
My Journey has been as dynamic as the industries I work within, I am also an artist, and I see this as the thread that ties everything I do together and forms part of my identity .
I see creativity as the perfect conduit for human connection.
I love people, as demonstrated by my diverse work history, which goes something like this...
Acting Agent, Art Lecturer in Prison, Therapeutic Specialist (SEND), Safeguarding Manager for Children's Services, General Manager of a large scale Multicultural Centre, Researcher
for Save the Children Fund, and varied roles for The Refugee Council, Action for Children, The Children's Society, Care for Calais, Probation and Workers Educational Association.
Oh, and did I mention I had been a singer, hip hop dancer, performance poet, a Chaperone and a background artist :)
Each of these experiences has shaped my approach to accessibility, mental health, and inclusivity in high-pressure environments.

Lived Experience & Professional Insight
On a personal level, I have first-hand experience navigating mental health challenges, fibromyalgia, and a neurological disorder, I am also a carer.
While I recognise that each individual’s journey is unique, my experiences have given me a heightened awareness of inequality and a deep respect for diverse needs.
My lived experience informs my approach, ensuring that I advocate effectively and sensitively for those requiring adjustments and support.

A Commitment to Advocacy & Inclusion
For over 30 years, I have worked directly with and alongside individuals with protected characteristics, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs met.
I have consistently used my positions in work and education to bridge gaps and reduce barriers, particularly for neurodivergent, physically disabled, and emotionally vulnerable clients.
However, I have also identified a significant gap in support for actors and crew members who are pregnant or older—groups that are often overlooked in conversations about accessibility and wellbeing.

The Role - Access & Wellbeing Coordinator
As an Access and Wellbeing Coordinator, my role is integral to production teams, proactively addressing mental health, accessibility, and wellbeing concerns before they impact morale, performance, or schedules.
By fostering psychologically safe, inclusive environments, I help ensure that every cast and crew member can thrive.

Commissioned by production companies, I specialise in creating equitable working conditions both on and off set. I work closely with d/Deaf, Disabled, Neurodivergent, Pregnant, and Older actors and crew to assess and meet their individual access requirements.
This process can include face-to-face consultations, anonymous surveys, telephone calls, or virtual meetings, allowing me to tailor recommendations while balancing business and production needs.

Supporting Productions from Every Angle
Beyond individual accessibility, I provide:
-
Mental health support and guidance
-
Conflict resolution and mediation
-
Safe spaces for confidential discussions
-
Tailored accessibility solutions

By integrating these services, I help productions mitigate stress, prevent burnout, and maintain a high-functioning, engaged cast and crew. My role serves as a bridge between production teams, directors, actors, and crew, ensuring that everyone has access to the adjustments and resources they need to perform at their best.

Credentials & Expertise
I hold a City & Guilds in the Safeguarding and Regulatory Compliance of Children in the Entertainment Industry and a Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills. My specialist certifications include:

-
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (SEN)
-
MAPA (Managing Actual & Potential Aggression)
-

Additionally, my academic background includes an MA from Manchester University and a BA (Hons) from the University of Sheffield, reinforcing my ability to integrate creative approaches into wellbeing initiatives within the entertainment industry.
